Khiva
Itchan Kala was the first UNESCO World Heritage site in Uzbekistan (1990). The walled inner town survives almost in full.
What is worth seeing
Itchan Kala is an entire museum-town: madrasahs, minarets, palaces and mosques inside a single ring of walls. That means no transport is needed between the monuments.
Kalta Minor is an unfinished minaret, instantly recognisable by its blue tilework. The Juma Mosque’s hall rests on hundreds of wooden columns and is the city’s most unusual interior.
Place in the route
Khiva is in the Khorezm region, in the west of the country. It is often offered on the same route as Bukhara or Urgench. The exact transport and dates are stated in the tour description.
